The aim of this course is to teach first-level Biblical Hebrew. In the first term, the course focuses on the alphabet, basic vocabulary and the first rules of nouns, strong verbs and syntax. The second term is devoted to reading initial texts to consolidate the knowledge acquired in the first term. It will also provide an introduction to weak verbs.
Teaching methods
Lecture based on the textbook by J. Weingreen, accompanied by exercises to be prepared personally and then repeated in class.
Evaluation methods
The course includes continuous assessment in addition to end-of-term exams. These include class attendance and participation, preparation for the course, etc.
1st session: (January)
Written exam: translation of a few sentences taken from the exercises in the manual (A) or from the biblical texts seen in class (B).

2nd and 3rd sessions: (June / September)
Oral exam (20 minutes + 90 minutes preparation time): translation of 1 or 2 texts explained in class and one unseen biblical text. Explanations of morphology. Use of working tools (textbook, dictionary, grammar) is permitted.
Attendance is required. In accordance with article 72 of the General Regulations for Studies and Examinations, the professor may propose to the jury that a student who has not attended at least 80% of the courses be refused registration in the January/June or September session.

Bible Works (available as a single-user program in BTEC) or any equivalent software (Logos, Accordance, etc.).
