Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :
1	At the end of the course, students are expected to have developed: A knowledge of the main notions, concepts and key personalities that define the literary world; A personal appropriation of the practices of literary writing; A practical experience of the places where literature is written, produced and read (writers workshops, writers exhibitions, literary meetings, festivals and events, book fairs, libraries and other institutions preserving the literary heritage, etc.); A skill to interact with various personalities involved in publishing and distributing literature (contemporary writers, publishers, editors, translators, press officers, literary agents, literary journalists, book fairs, festivals, exhibitions, etc.); A comprehension of literature as a work in progress that involves words and reality.

Content

'Campus Literature' (CL) involves on-campus- and off-campus activities, taking place over the two terms. Off-campus activities are organized in partnership with Passa Porta, International House of Literatures in Brussels in order to allow students to discover, outside the classroom, personalities and places related to the world of books and writing.

A. 1st Term Activities
During the first term, students are expected to:

1. Take part in a collective introductory meeting about the CL (2H). The date of this meeting will be announced at the beginning of the academic year;
2. Participate in 3 off-campus literary events among the ones proposed by Passa Porta, International House of Literatures in Brussels, between October and December. Students will receive the Passa Porta program at the beginning of the academic year in order to choose autonomously the activities in which they will participate;
3. Take part in two 2-hour sessions of a writing workshop by Vincent Engel.

B. 2nd Term Activities
During the second term, students are expected to:

1. Participate in an one afternoon meeting with an internationally renowned writer, as will be indicated by the CL's instructors;
2. Take part in a 2-hour session of the writing workshop by Vincent Engel;
3. Participate in 2 off-campus literary events organized by Passa Porta within the Passa Porta Festival (end of March 2017);
4. Take part in a collective final meeting about the CL outcomes (2H).

Teaching methods

Teaching activities:

1. CL' instructors are responsible for the organization of all teaching and evaluation activities.
2. Vincent Engel, writer and CL instructor, will teach the writing workshop.
3. Students can autonomously choose what off-campus Passa Porta activities to attend, as long as they fulfill class requirements.

Evaluation methods

The assessment of the Campus-Littérature (CL) involves both off-campus and on-campus- activities.

A. In order to complete the off-campus activities (1st and 2nd term), students are expected to participate in all off-campus activities proposed by the CL's instructors and by Passa Porta, International House of Literatures in Brussels. Students must prove their participation in the Passa Porta events by providing the CL's instructors with an official certificate delivered by the event organizer. For this purpose, the first day of the exam session, both during the 1st and 2nd term, students will have to send to the CL's instructors a scanned copy (end of the 1st term) and a scanned + paper version (end of the 2nd term) of the attendance notebook (= Passa Porta passport) that they have received at the beginning of the academic year, filled, signed and stamped by Passa Porta Staff. Only this attendance notebook will be considered as a valid proof for the actual presence of the student during the Passa Porta events. In the absence of these proofs, no credits for the off-campus activities will be awarded. This is applicable for both semesters.

B. In order to complete the on-campus activities (1st and 2nd term), students are expected to:

1. Attend all CL on-campus activities in Louvain-la-Neuve;
2. Take actively part in the writing workshop sessions. The workshop's evaluation will be especially based on students' active participation in the workshop's activities;
3. Submit a final report (length: 6 pages at most), written as a literary production (possibly conceived as a short story), that gives an overview of the evolution of both their reflection and writing process during the course.

CL spans over two terms.
At the end of the first term students will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

1. Having participated in 3 off-campus literary events in Passa Porta, International House of Literatures in Brussels, on presentation of an attendance notebook previously signed and stamped by Passa Porta Staff;
2. Having attended all 1st term sessions of the writing workshop.

2. Students are expected to study on their personal notes;
3. Other class material (readings, videos, etc.) might be provided by the professors during the CL.
