This course aims to give the students analytical tools to understand the main social and economic issues in Latin America, taking in account the actors' logic, at local, national and international level and in a long-term perspective.
Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

To be able to understand the main social and economic issues in Latin America presented at the course

To be able to use the analytical tools provided

To be able to present, with solid and scientific arguments, a critical point of view on material related to Latin America

Content
The courses contents two parts, completed by texts and audiovisual material. The first part presents chronologically some of the main social and economic issues on Latin America (colonization, resources extraction, neoliberal reforms, development politics and orientations,'). The second part presents thematic workshops on contemporary topics (indigenous dynamics, borders and circulation, Amazonia, drug traffic, urban development, violence,').
The courses will approaches all Latin America countries, but with specific illustrations from the Andean region (Peru, Bolivia).
Evaluation methods
L'examen oral portera sur les exposés du cours, les lectures proposées et la discussion d'une note critique réalisée par l'étudiant et portant sur un film relatif à l'Amérique latine.
