Main themes
This course consists of a one-week field excursion in the Alps. During several days, we will be guided by local experts and will be visiting their field area. During the excursion, a lot of attention will also be given to individual fieldwork. Small groups of students will work jointly on a specific topic that is related to e.g. biogeography, natural resource management, land use systems, land degradation.
Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 The main theme of this course is sustainable land use development. The use of the land in mountainous regions such as the French Alps is conditioned by numerous biophysical and socio-economic factors. These factors are subject to rapid change. During this field excursion, we will focus at land use change, its driving factors and the interaction with the physical environment. Different case studies will be analyzed in the field under the guidance of local experts.

Personnel skills - A capacity to analyze and discuss environmental problems in the field, and to link them with the models and theory that was presented in previous lectures (GEO 2120, GEOG2122: Integrated Exercise) - An ability to work in small groups Prerequisite: Having followed an advanced course in physical and human geography
