Main themes
A systematic study of the syntax of classical Greek.
This course, to be taken in parallel with LGLOR 1173, deals with the following themes:
1. The basic structures of Greek syntax;
2. The morphology and syntax of the demonstrative and personal pronouns;
3. The general principles of Greek accentuation and the accentuation of verb forms and clitics.
Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

At the end of the course, the student will have mastered the basic rules of Greek verbal syntax (including translation from French into Greek). He will also be familiar with the demonstrative and personal pronouns, as well as with some basic rules of Greek accentuation.

Content
This course offers a systematic study of the basic rules of Greek syntax, especially the syntax of complementary and adverbial clauses (value of subordinate conjunctions; use of tenses and moods). The constructions will be illustrated by a linguistic analysis of Classical Greek sentences. This practical part also includes initiation into translation from French into Greek.
Teaching methods
Lectures coupled with numerous exercises.
Evaluation methods
One or two tests are organised during the term.
A final written exam evaluates the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of the student, including translation from French into Greek.
