Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

Reading comprehension:

  • Can read short simple texts, find specific and expected information in everyday material, understand short simple personal letters (A2 Level of the « CEF»).

Listening comprehension:

  • Can understand phrases and the highest frequency vocabulary related to areas of most immediate personal relevance, catch the main point in short, clear, simple messages and announcements (A2 Level of the « CEF »).

Speaking:

  • Can describe in simple terms his/her family and other people, living conditions, his/her educational background and his/her present or most recent activity, communicate in simple and routine tasks, handle very short social exchanges (A2 Level of the « CEF »).

Writing:

  • Can write short, simple messages (for example postcards) or fill in very simple forms (A1 Level of the « CEF»).

Code:

  • Knowledge of basic vocabulary, pronunciation and structures of German.

Culture

  • For all the skills afore mentioned: introduction to German culture

Content
Learning is contextualized by original or edited texts (reading or listening comprehension). Vocabulary and basic grammatical structures are trained, consolidated and extended via written and oral exercises (drills, role-plays, interviews and conversations in groups of 2 or 4 people).
Teaching methods
Groups of 25 students maximum.
Evaluation methods
Different marks are taken into account in the global mark:
  1. Continuous assessment based on tests during the year (no certificative assessment).
  2. Oral (40%) and written exam (60%: grammar and vocabulary 20%, text and listening 20%, writing 20%) take place at the last courseweek. The first examen will take place at week 14 of the first term and chapter 1-4 of the book will be tested. The second exam will take place at week 13 of the second term and chapter 4-8 will be tested. The final junemark will be: 30% of december mark and 70% of maymark.
