The professional training should focus on a complex environmental issue that requires an integrated approach involving various disciplines and interactions with various stakeholders.
Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1
The professional training must be such as to involve the trainee in all the steps leading to the resolution of a complex environmental issue that the host institution is managing. This involvement must be a real synergy between the student and the institution; it must lead the student to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired during the courses and allow him/her to take advantage of the interdisciplinary nature of the Master. In addition, the training should give the student the opportunity to get in touch with the various stakeholders involved in the environmental issue. The type of work involved in the training should use student's skills that are quite different from those which he/she had after his/her first master.

The contribution of this Teaching Unit to the development and command of the skills and learning outcomes of the programme(s) can be accessed at the end of this sheet, in the section entitled “Programmes/courses offering this Teaching Unit”.
Content
The professional training is an indispensable and integral part of the Master (120) Science and environmental management. It will be executed in a host institution: company, environmental agency, public authority, association,... located in Belgium or abroad (but a priori not in a university laboratory). Its duration is three months full-time and it must be performed at least in part on the premises of the host institution. The trainee will be supervised by a academic supervisoror - a permanent member of the UCL academic or scientific staff - and a "local tutor" charged by the host institution to supervise the trainee during the internship. The trainee has to keep his/her supervisor regularly informed (at least once a month) of the evolution of the training.
Other information
The choice of the host institution, of the training content and of the supervisor will be proposed by the student and must be approved by the professors responsible for LENVI2199; An internship agreement MUST be signed by all parties BEFORE the start of the training (related to insurance issues). The ad-hoc documents are available on Moodle. The training will result in a written report and a public oral defense face to a jury (see LENVI2099 course).
