None, but an elementary knowledge of Sanskrit is useful.
Main themes
Through history and/or social and cultural anthropology, the seminar deals with the peculiarities of classical Indian civilization: geographical and chronological framework; Aryan question; Vedic society (individual, family, castes); Brahmanic tradition; village and city, places of worship; asceticism and monasticism; kingship and state organization; policy and economics; court culture and intellectual life; encounters of India with the West (antiquity / modern times).
Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

At the end of this seminar, the student will be capable to understand historically and anthropologically the peculiarities of classical Indian civilization.
