1 The research specialisation training aims at providing the student with deepened experience in molecular and cell biology research, and to exert his/her knowledge, technical skills and communication facilities in a new and high-quality scientific environment. More specifically, during the training period, the student will be asked to: o Get acquainted with the host environment o Document him/herself on the subject of his/her research project o Become aware of short- and long-term goals of his/her project o Develop his/her curiosity and interest for scientific matters o Develop his/her sociability and ability to communicate o Contribute to the experimental design of his/her research work o Execute his/her work programme with the help and advices of his/her mentor, while developing his/her own autonomy and creativity o Critically analyse and interpret his/her results o Write a synthetic report on the scientific achievements and conclusions the he/she obtained from his/her contribution

The contribution of this Teaching Unit to the development and command of the skills and learning outcomes of the programme(s) can be accessed at the end of this sheet, in the section entitled “Programmes/courses offering this Teaching Unit”.
Content
Details on the objectives, conditions, assessment and practical organisation of the placement are compiled in a synopsis to the intention of the students and their mentors. A copy of the synopsis is available on the web site of the Science Faculty at UCL
Evaluation methods
Two assessments on the training period are assigned. One at mid-term and the second one at the end of the placement. The intermediate assessment has an 'informative' value to provide the student with a feedback on his/her training progress. The final assessment is based on a written and oral report made by the trainee after he or she returns from placement. The mentor contributes to the evaluation by giving an overall assessment of the trainee and his/her achievements.
