Although we do not yet know how long the social distancing related to the Covid-19 pandemic will last, and regardless of the changes that had to be made in the evaluation of the June 2020 session in relation to what is provided for in this learning unit description, new learnig unit evaluation methods may still be adopted by the teachers; details of these methods have been - or will be - communicated to the students by the teachers, as soon as possible.

Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 At the end of the course, the student will :
  • have gained a good perception of the various domains of research, computer applications and actors belonging to the field of linguistic engineering (as well in the academia as in the industry).
  • be able to take charge of information searches aiming at identifying existing applications, research centers or companies corresponding to specific needs or criteria.
  • he will be able to evaluate and compare them.

Content
The course is based on a e-learning web site with tutorials and online exercises providing a progressive overview of the field.
Several conferences by researchers of the field are also organized and will give to the student the opportunity to discover various aspects of ongoing research projects.
Evaluation methods
Students will be evaluated on their active participation during the seminars (they are advised to prepare questions for the speaker). They will also be evaluated on their preparation of an individual assignment which will be an in-depth study of the subject presented during the conference.
