Prerequisites

Main themes
The course covers the following two linguistic fields :
1. Syntax : grammatical categories ; syntactic and semantic functions ; phrases ; simple, complex and compound sentences.
2. Stylistics : analysis of the lexical and syntactic differences between different varieties of English (speech vs writing ; formal vs informal style).
Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Provide a foundation course in English syntax and stylistics and train students in the reading and writing of scientific articles in these two fields.

Content
This course provides a solid foundation in English syntax and stylistics.
Teaching methods
Combination of lectures and exercise sessions.
Evaluation methods
Continuous assessment: active participation in class and in the exercise sessions, as well as the activities on the Moodle website. 
In June or September: written exam (theoretical questions 70% + exercises 30%).
