Aims

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Understanding the basics of musical acoustics, training ranges and temperaments, changes the pitch and the classification of musical instruments.
 
Content
The first part of the course examines acoustic constraints on instrument making (mainly string and wind instruments).
The second part is dedicated to the construction of scales (pythagorean, natural) and temperaments (meantone, irregular, equal).
The third part describes the historical evolution of pitch standards.
The last part presents the classification of musical instruments.
