Main themes
A study of prose works by Latin authors.
This course deals with the following themes:
1. Translation of works of Latin authors of the classical period;
2. Explanation of specific grammatical points (morphology and syntax);
3. Acommentary designed to put the work into context and to highlight the documentary and human values contained therein.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 At the end of the course the student will be able to analyse grammatically, to translate and comment upon texts of average difficulty. He will be able to explain the context, and to bring out the human values expressed therein.
 
Content
The authors chosen for the course in 2016-2017 are Livius (The end of Servius Tullius) and Tacitus (The tragedy of Messalina).
Teaching methods
The translations prepared by the students will be corrected during the course, and will be commented on as fully as possible. If necessary, the points of grammar will be revised as necessary.
Evaluation methods
Written exam in January on the texts seen during the Q1 course (60%). Written exam in June on the texts seen during the Q2 course (40%).
The global note is an average from the 2 partial notes.
For the 2d session, there is an oral exam on the texts of the whole year.
