The physical and palaeo-anthropology section of the course discusses problematic issues relative to human remains from the archeological sites.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 The aim is to give to archeologists the necessary knowledge to manage and to interpret human remains in collaboration with anthropologist.
 
Content
Methods to conserve, to describe and to measure (fragments of) human skeletons will be discussed both in theory and in practice. On this basis, the interpretation of the results will be considered to understand the characters retained in a variety of environments and climates. Human evolution will be explained to show the cognitive new abilities recognized in the archeological material and deduced from some emerging characters.
Teaching methods
Introduction to the differentiation of types of burials and to the analysis of the state and position of  bones in order to understand funeral practices and provide information on the living practices of populations in the past.
Evaluation methods
According to the abilities of the teachers, the exam can be either oral or written. The precise mode is communicated at the beginning of the year..
