Main themes
1. The course covers two linguistics fields: Dutch phonetics and phonology, and Dutch morphology;
2. Introduction to the reading (and writing) of scientific articles;
3. Presentation of reference books.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Provide a foundation course in Dutch phonetics, phonology and morphology. The students should also be able to analyse reference books with a criticizing mind.
 
Content
The course is an introduction to Dutch phonetics, phonology and morphology.
Phonetics and phonology (vowels, diphthongs, consonants; co-articulation; accentuation and intonation).
Morphology (especially lexical morphology, loanwords and neologisms).
Teaching methods
Mixed approach of lectures, reading of scientific articles and exercises.
Evaluation methods
Oral examination in June and August
The final grade of the course will be the average of the following three grades: one grade out of 20 for the 'morphology' part, one grade out of 20 for the 'phonetics/phonology' part and one grade out of 20 for the oral command of the language (pronunciation [segmental and suprasegmental levels], grammar, lexicon)
