Prerequisites
Prerequisite: the course LGLOR1671 or LGLOR1672 (level 1).
Main themes
Initiation to the Vedic language, the most archaic state of Old Indo-Aryan before its fixation in classical Sanskrit, and represented by texts ranging from the hymns of the Rigveda to ritualistic prose.
Systematic presentation of the phonetics, morphology and syntax of this language state, illustrated by extracts from representative texts.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 translate, using the appropriate tools, Vedic texts of simple and middle level ;
 
2 understand the linguistic peculiarities of this state of language compared to classical Sanskrit in particular.
