At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

AA-FS-AL.Develop expertise and a high level of competence in literary translation in the broader sense and specifically producing original works or revising existing pieces that involve the use of language for aesthetic ends: translating literary works of fiction or texts pertaining to traditional genres; literature associated with the image and other artistic domains; translating texts for publication and (an option only available in certain languages) translation in the domains of 'Publicity & Marketing'.  
Specific learning outcomes on completion of teaching unit
On completing this unit the student is able to:
·         Translate from Spanish into French one or more medium-length literary texts (short stories, poems, prose extracts, etc.) respecting and adapting all semantic, linguistic and stylistic elements;
·          Defend through argument the translation choices made;
·         Closely analyse alternative translation possibilities concerning the same text or texts with a view to, for example, being able to:
  • Adopt a collective,  group version, possibly for publication;
  • Compare and contrast one's own translation choices with those in a published work;
etc.
 
Content
This workshop will focus on the translation of several texts belonging to various genres (mostly short stories and novels but also humanities and social sciences) . It will aim to stimulate reflection on the act of translation , in connection with the course LTRAD 2700 'Theory of Literary Translation . The importance of the historical and cultural context , the adequacy with the target culture, the registers of language , the translation of humor are some of the issues discussed at this workshop.those in a published work; etc.
Teaching methods
Face-to-face teaching (computer lab).
Evaluation methods
Continuous assessment of the student's work during the term.
In September: assessment in the form of a written paper and oral exam.
