Main themes
The students will learn:
to carry out a research dealing with a precise question on a given topic.
to work on this topic by gathering a large corpus of data.
to study the links between the production and reception of works of art, between discourses and practices.
to write a scientific report integrating the observations in situ and the analysis, as well as the knowledge acquired in LARKE1145 and LARKE1225.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 It is the aim of the seminar that the student develops a critical sense and analytical methods as well as the ability to deal with a specific subject.

At the end of this course, the student will be able to deal with a specific scientific issue, to present the results of his/her research by integrating his/her observations made during the study trip. 
 
Content
Deepening of the knowledge acquired in LARKE1145 and LARKE1225: description, usual vocabulary in architecture, sculpture, painting and decorative arts; heuristic, typology of documents, system of bibliographical references. Analyse the different dimensions of a work of art: material, technological, stylistic, iconological and typological. Studying the work of art through its history and its context of creation and reception.
Changing annually the seminar can cross the history of art diachronically or focus on a particular period. The subject (artistic genre, artistic or social milieu, iconographic topos, etc.) will be analysed according to a theoretical approach (aesthetical, semiological, sociological, anthropological, etc.).
Teaching methods
Combination of teachers' presentations and interactions with the students (debates, individual or collective presentations, methodology exercises). The student's progression through his or her work will be subject to individual monitoring by the teachers and their assistants.
The seminar also include a study trip involving students at different levels: organization, logistics, designing a program of visits and oral presentations of the researches.
Evaluation methods
Certificate continuous assessment formalized by the realization of practical works during the academic year on the first hand, and the active participation in the seminar sessions and the study trip. Success depends on participation to all activities as well as the works realized during the academic year.

In December and May, end-of-term certificate assessments will cover the two individual works on the analysis of a work of art (architectural or sculpted) under both written and oral forms.

In the event of a second registration, the student will have to bring the necessary corrections to the individual works of both May and December.
