At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 This course offers a thorough analysis of challenges arising in the relations between Russia and Europe. It covers political, economical, and security issues in this area, and the institutional tools available for dealing with them. A special attention is dedicated to the EU's external policy from 1988 until today. The overall objective is to provide students with a comprehensive view of the challenges and the processes of the Euro-Russian "common space".

Introduction to European-Russian relations: transnational issues - energy
Introduction to European-Russian relations: transnational issues - security
EU and Russian policies in the states of Eastern Europe (Moldova, Belarus, Ukraine)
EU and Russian policies in the Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia)
EU and Russian policies in the states of Central Asia
Russian and European approaches to international challenges: the Middle East, rivalry between the major powers, the environment, multilateralism
Teaching methods
Traditional teaching; a syllabus will be distributed ahead of the spring break
