Main themes
Reading and commentary of a selection of representative works of classical Greek literature, according to a given theme.
The reading will be accompanied by grammatical explanations according to the needs of the students and the characteristics of the texts read.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 translate into literary French representative texts of classical Greek literature;
 
2 analyze these texts grammatically;
 
3 produce a structured and argued commentary on one or more works of Greek literature, including literary, historicaland stylistic considerations.
 
Content
The authors chosen for the course are Plato and Sophocles. After an introduction to show the context of each author and his work, the works will be read with grammatical explanations and a commentary.
Teaching methods
The translations prepared by the student will be corrected and commented during the course. If necessary specific grammar points will be revised.
Evaluation methods
Oral exam based on texts seen during the course.
- Thorough knowledge of the text is an essential preliminary.
- Students are asked to give a few minutes presentation on a point of commentary left to their discretion.
