Main themes
This learning unit presents the evolution of international trade (global value chains), the major international trade models (Ricardo, Heckscher-Ohlin, economies of scale and imperfect markets), trade policies (protectionism, free trade, international trade and development, international trade negotiations, trade agreements), the social and environmental challenges of globalization (social dumping, environmental dumping), exchange rate regimes.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Given the « competencies referential » linked to the LSM Bachelor in Management and Business Engineering, this course mainly develops the following competencies:

At the end of the class, the student will be able to:
  • master a basic set of skills in international economics;
  • think as a socially responsible actor by producing a group reflection on a specific theme related to a contemporary issue;
  • apply a scientific approach by documenting itself adequately in order to carry out the above-mentioned work;
  • exercise critical thinking by providing relevant comments on the work submitted by some of his peers;
  • manage this project in accordance with the imposed instructions;
  • communicate the results of this group project.
 
Content
This course presents the global evolution of international trade since the mid-19th century, core models of international trade, trade policies, and current topics such as social and environmental challenges associated with trade.
Evaluation methods
Written exam (80% of the grade) et group paper (20% of the grade)
As the group paper requires interactions among students, the grade got in January for this activity will be once and for all acquired for the ongoing academic year: no retake option will be organized for this group working paper activity.

Prerequisite: MECON1211-macroeconomics
At the end of this course, student will be able to:
  • understand the theoretical models and concepts presented in this course
  • use them to explain concrete economic problems and current issues in international economics
