Pharmacie galénique 1re partie
5.00 credits
40.0 h
Main themes
The course covers the understanding and implementation of formulation principles and drug manufacture in industry and community pharmacy.  The course is divided in 2 parts (WFARM2156 et 2157) and includes practical training.
The course aims at integrating the physicochemical bases necessary for the formulation and the manufacture of pharmaceutical dosage forms. The formulation of various pharmaceutical dosage forms including the role of excipients, the manufacture and their control will be discussed.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 At the end of the formation, students are able to
- choose a pharmaceutical form adapted to the drug, the patient and the pathology
- formulate it by understanding the associated physicochemical principles and the role of excipients
- manufacture it (in community pharmacy or industry)
- verify its quality and conformity
The course will cover the main pharmaceutical dosage forms used: solid dosage forms for oral use, pharmaceutical solutions, liquids for oral use, injectable dosage forms. The definition and relevance of the pharmaceutical forms described in the European Pharmacopoeia, the principles of their formulation, the main excipients used, the methods of manufacture in industry and community pharmacy and the controls described in the pharmacopoeia will be addressed.
Teaching methods
The course will be given using new teaching methods to complement the lecture (active pedagogy and flipped classes).
Interactive lectures
Formative videos
Online pharmaceutical calculations
Online formative tests
Continuous assessment (3 midterms) in addition to the exam
Workshops and optional activities
Some activities will be done outside the course and some during the course.
Evaluation methods
The final grade is the weighted average of the A and B grades. In the final grade, Part A is worth 6/20 and Part B is worth 14/20.
A: Mid-term/Continuous assessment (6 points/20; 30%)
B: In-session examination (14 points/20; 70%)
It will be possible, through the completion of various non-compulsory activities, to collect bonus points that will be added to the final grade of the first term.
Attendance at mid-term exams is mandatory. Any unexcused absence will result in a grade of 0.
The points acquired during the mid-term exams and the bonus points will not change and will be taken into consideration as they are in the final grade of a possible second session.
Online resources
Lecture courses and pharmaceutrical calculations are available on Moodle.
