1
Skills to be acquired:

The courses dedicated to intensive care aim to introduce the student to the main physiopathological mechanisms and diagnostic aspects leading the patient to a critical state.

Main goals:

The student will acquire theoretical and practical skills allowing to recognize a critical patient. Physiopathological mechanisms of diseases and treatments will be learned.

Content
The course will instruct on one hand in the critically ill patients, inpatients and outpatients, and on the other hand in sick patients needing an procedure or a surgical operation, whether it is an adult or a child.
The course will be given by 4 kinds of physicians: an anaesthetist, an intensive care physician, a paediatric intensivist and an ED physician.
There are 4 parts: 7 lectures about adult intensive care, 7 about adulte emergency medicine, 4 about paediatric emergencies and intensive care and 6 about anaesthetics.
Teaching methods
The courses are based on physiopathology and semeiology; present therapeutic approaches for the most urgent and deleterious pathologies and combine theory with clinical cases.
Evaluation methods
June session: multiple choice questions (MCQ) or short open-ended questions (OEQ), based on the instructed theory or by means of resolving clinical cases.
September session: same modality as June session, or, if insufficient number of students, oral exam built on clinical cases relying on instructed theoretical bases.
The modalities of the exam might change in the light of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and the necessary undertaken measures.
