Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

To master several conceptual notions, as well as several historical stages related to culture in the modern Arab world. The course will analyse the impact of colonisation and decolonisation in the Arab world, from a cultural point of view: literature, theatre, the modern school, the place of women, architecture, etc.
The aim is to show that beyond the perceptible cultural phenomenon, there is a socio-historical background that is essential to know in order to be able to analyse the phenomenon in its entirety. In addition, the student is also required to carry out his/her own research and to present it orally in Arabic on a theme related to culture in the Arab world.
