At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

The course in philosophy of language aims to provide students with the historical and conceptual bases essential to grasp the fundamental issues of contemporary philosophy. It will show how the linguistic turn in philosophy was the source of a profound questioning of the methodological frameworks of philosophy and of the classical understanding of philosophy since antiquity.

Content

We will take a historical tour through the classical debates in 20th century philosophy of language from Frege to Wittgenstein and the philosophy of ordinary language.
Students will be introduced to the great classical texts of the analytic tradition (Frege, Russell, Strawson, Austin, Wittgenstein, Anscombe, etc.)

Teaching methods

Lectures given by the professor, with the active participation of the students thanks to the preparation of the course sessions through the required readings.
