Content
The course aims to introduce the students to the definition of psychology and its main theoretical and practical options. Therefore two general themes will be studied to highlight the importance of psychology in human sciences, to trace its origins, and to develop a critique of its theoretical and ideological foundations. These two themes are :
1° the evaluation of human conducts and the constitution of behavioural norms, where theories of personality, psychological tests, psychiatry and clinical psychology are to be found,
2° the theories of language and communication, studied by the analysis of language in comparative psychology, in experimental psychology and in psychoanalysis.

Teaching methods
The lecture develops the subject matter. Attendance is practically indispensable for a good understanding of the ideas developed in class. The notes taken in class will be essential to pass the examination. The reading of some major fundamental texts in psychology will provide the students with a concrete theoretical illustration of some aspects of psychology.
Evaluation methods
The final assessment is an written examination during which the students will be asked questions on the subject matter developed in class. Besides, the examination will also include application questions on the theories so that the students will have to analyze situations and problems. The examination takes place in session (January, June, and September).

The students will have at their disposal a detailed course outline as well as the texts they will have to read.
