Specific Target Learning Outcomes

On completing this Unit, students should:

- Possess the ability to apply the rules of grammar studied in class in context (verbs, declination, etc.), and if necessary explain them using examples;
- Possess a command of the basic rules of lexical and grammatical spelling;
- Be able to recognize and produce both simple and complex German syntactic structures.
NB: The fundamentals of phonetic theory are taught in parallel (that is, progressively) with the above content.

Content
This Unit gives students a high level of proficiency in the rules of phonetics and grammar that are characteristic of German. The course focuses on the rules of phonetics and provides a grounding in the rules of basic German grammar and their application, principally in relation to verbs and sentences. It also aims at developing students' proficiency in using German grammar in context and time is devoted to comparison with French grammar. The goal is twofold: to enhance students' proficiency in German and to provide them with the skills they need to translate verbs, noun phrases, German grammatical structures etc. into French. The course for ERASMUS students and students enrolled in the program for German-speaking students is a French grammar course.
