The course will cover the following topics:
- basic concepts of discourse analysis: cohesion, discourse relations, thematic progression and information structure;
- stance marking;
- genre and register variation.

Face-to-face lectures: 30h of theory + 15h of exercise sessions

Evaluation methods
Written exam (90% of the mark awarded for this part of the course): MCQs, open theory and/or reflection questions, exercises similar to those done in class
Group assignment (10% of the mark awarded for this part of the course): discourse analysis of a French text and its translation into one of the students' working languages; the assignment will be presented during the exercise sessions at the end of the term. Instructions and submission dates will be posted on the Moodle page of the course at the beginning of the second term.
