Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

At the end of the course, students should have acquired the necessary skills and methodology to analyze a narrative text according to the approach proposed during the course sessions; they should be able to produce an original literary analysis during the seminar; they should also master certain points of reference to orient themselves in contemporary French literature.

Content
The course proposes to identify, within contemporary French-language literary production, authors who, as part of an evolving literary history, renew its forms. After a substantial introduction to contemporary French literature and to the question of "contemporaneity", the course will analyze several novels, each of which deals in a singular way with the major issues of today, both ethical and aesthetic.
Teaching methods
The teaching unit consists of 30 hours of theory and 15 hours of seminar.
The theory course is given by the professor, who offers a detailed analysis of each narrative work considered. It is a lecture, but students are invited to take an active part in the teaching, thanks to the previous readings they will have done.
In addition, the seminar is an opportunity for students to practice the analysis of a contemporary novel. They will take turns presenting their work. They will thus be able to appropriate the theoretical notions and the working approach while perfecting their literary analysis skills acquired during the theory course as well as during the first two years of the program.
Evaluation methods
The theory part will be evaluated by an oral exam (30% of the final grade).
The seminar will result in the production of a personal written work (70% of the final grade, comments from the professor during the oral exam). An oral presentation (not graded) will also be required.
Bibliography
Une bibliographie est mise à disposition des étudiants au début du quadrimestre via Moodle, ainsi que d’autres documents.
