Prerequisites
The student should have followed the intermediate-level course (LANGL1331) or a course of a similar level, corresponding to the B2 level of the 'Common European Framework for Languages' (European Council).
Main themes
Students will be asked to take part in various activities allowing them to develop their communicative skills (mainly oral skills) in the following situations:  to make an oral presentation (press conference) of a new product, concept,  participating in a meeting, using electronic mail, telephoning.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Students should be able to read autonomously and understand in detail factual texts and specialised articles related to their field of studies.
B2 level of the "Common European Framework for Languages."
     
    2 Listening Comprehension:
    •  Students should be able to understand conferences and extended speeches and follow complex argumentation.
    • Students should be able to understand current-affairs television programmes and programmes which are/are not related to their field of studies.
    • Students should be able to exploit the main points of a document in a conversation.
    • Students should be able to follow argumentation in a current conversation between different interlocutors within the main socio-professional contexts.
    B2 level of the "Common European Framework for Languages."
     
    3 Speaking Skills:
    • Students should be able to present a complex topic in a clear and methodical way with only occasional reference to their notes.
    • Students should be able to communicate spontaneously and fluently to a degree that allows for normal interaction with a native-speaker interlocutor.
    • Students should be able to communicate fluently and effectively in conversations on both social and professional levels.
    • Students should be able to express, articulate and defend their opinions and should be able to react to and interact with their interlocutors in conversations on both social and professional levels.
    B2 level of the "Common European Framework for Languages".
       
      4 Code:
      • Enabling students to adequately master language functions, grammatical structures (simple and complex), vocabulary (general and specific), pronunciation and intonation in order to allow for fluent and spontaneous communication.
       
      Content
      Students should be able to communicate spontaneously and fluently to a degree that allows for normal interaction with a native-speaker interlocutor , with a B2 level in speaking of the Common European Framework for Languages (European Council).
      Teaching methods
      • This is a 30-hour course taught 2 hours a week throughout the first term for the langl 2433P course and throughout the second term for the langl 2433S course , in groups of maximum 20 students. 
      • Every teacher has at least one office-hour a week and can be contacted by email.
      Students who do not attend the oral exam (justifed or unjustified absence) will be considered as absent (justified or unjustified absence).
      Attendance at this language course is required. In accordance with article 72 of the General Regulations for Studies and Examinations, the teacher may propose to the jury that a student who has at least two unjustified absences for the course, be refused registration for the January, June or September session.
      Evaluation methods
      June session:
      1. Certificative continuous assessment: preparation for class, active participation in all class activities, with particular emphasis on presentation skills  (minimum one presentation) given in class (60% of the final mark).
      2. Two exams: one individual oral exam (20% of the final mark) students will be asked to take part in one or more activities similar to those covered in class and one collective exam (holding a meeting). (20% of the final mark).
      Students who do not attend the oral exam (justifed or unjustified absence) will be considered as absent.
      Attendance at this language course is required. In accordance with article 72 of the General Regulations for Studies and Examinations, the teacher may propose to the jury that a student who has at least two unjustified absences for the course, be refused registration for the January, June or September session.
      August session :
      Situation A : Students with at least 10/20 for continuous assessment in June:
      • Certificative continuous assessment: (60% of the final mark): the mark for continuous assessment in June is kept.
      • Oral collective and individual exam (40% of the final mark).
      The students concerned only present the collective and individual exam.
      Situation B : Students with less than 10/20 for continuous assessment in June:
      • Certificative continuous assessment: (60% of the final mark): preparation of all activities as described in the syllabus and on Moodle in the section “ instructions for the August session”.
      •  Oral collective and individual exam (40% of the final mark).
