Main themes
The master's individual final project, regardless of the subject, allows a student to:
  • summarise a given scientific topic,
  • put a specific issue in context drawing on existing information,
  • present the results of the dissertation.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

The dissertation must demonstrate the student's ability to describe correctly the results of a personal, objective and methodical work. The length of the dissertation is not a criteria in evaluating its quality. Similar to the other forms of learning, the dissertation is an essential component of the programme to which it belongs. Status quaestionis about an issue of the masters, this piece of work is more limited than a dissertation and must be done in one year.
 
Content
The master's individual final project is a personal contribution to scientific knowledge on a problem of limited scope. In this work, which is the culmination of the student's degree, he or she will demonstrate that he or she has assimilated the methodological principles of Germanic language studies, particularly in the fields of linguistics, literature and cultural studies.
The student will demonstrate the ability to go through the essential stages of scientific research, namely the definition of a problem, the bibliographic collection and analysis of secondary literature, as well as the elaboration of a synthesis and the communication of the results.
The body of the TFE, apart from the bibliography, illustrations and appendices, will be between 50 and 75 pages (between 100,000 and 150,000 characters).
Teaching methods
Regular interaction with the promoter in the language under investigation in the degree paper.
Evaluation methods
The thesis is evaluated by the promoter and a reader. The average of their respective grades determines the overall assessment of the thesis.
The following aspects are taken into account in the evaluation of the work :
  • the ability to identify precisely the object of the research and to correctly pose a problem or a working hypothesis
  • the mastery of the various bibliographic and documentary research tools
  • the articulation and coherence of the work as a whole;
  • the accuracy, clarity and rigor of the written expression;
  • the respect of the formal constraints of presentation of a scientific text.
There is ni oral defense.
