Main themes
Study of classical Greek grammar (school level): morphology (nominal and verbal) and basic syntax. In addition, basic vocabulary and translation of short (versions) and long (cursive) texts are taught.
Content
Designed as a continuation of the Introduction course (LFIAL 1770 Greek I), this course is intended to consolidate and deepen the knowledge acquired:
1. Verb conjugation (including accentuation) and use of tenses and modes;
2. Analysis and translation of a text, in this case excerpts from Xenophon's Cyropaedia (cursive reading).
Exercise hours are devoted to syntax and theme practice.
At the end of this course, students will have mastered verbal morphology, as well as notions on the use of tenses and modes. They will be able to translate and analyze Greek prose texts at an elementary level, as well as to practice theme on the basis of a corpus of paradigms.
Teaching methods
Lecture and interactive course.
Regular study of the material covered in the course is essential.
Preparations are frequently required.
Evaluation methods
Written and oral examination.
