Content
The field chosen is the relatively new one of princely fragility, at the crossroads of political history and historical anthropology. How can the body of the princely individual be at odds with the ideals of the various components of political society? It's clear that certain profiles are subject to criticism and difficulties of all kinds in the exercise of power: the child, the adolescent, the woman, the sick or aging prince. In the name of malleable, tacit principles, the person of the monarch, far from being untouchable, can be kidnapped, sequestered or shot. Finally, the human condition is a limitation that thinkers and historians strive to take into account: what does the death of a great man actually mean?
Teaching methods
A "lecture" course, with a strong emphasis on the inclusion of sources of various kinds, will be followed by exercise sessions based on concrete documents.
Evaluation methods
A written exam, in the form of a commentary on a textual or iconographic document, will enable you to mobilize your knowledge and critical reflexes.
Online resources
Powerpoint projections of the course sessions, as well as all the documents analyzed, will be available via the Moodle platform on the course website.
