Main themes
This course will address the definition and specificity of theological ethics, as well as its relationship to other branches of theology and humanities. It will mainly examine through a historical journey the relations between faith and ethics and raise the question of the autonomy of morality and the specificity of an ethic of Christian inspiration.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 Primarily
A.4. To lay the foundations of an ethical discernment;
B.1. To know the notions proper to theology and its epistemology.
Secondarily
A.2.To understand and explain the Christian theological tradition in its major theoretical currents by contextualizing them;
B.2.To understand and explain the thinking of a theologian.
 
Content
The teaching unit introduces in a first part of all a reflection on the level of the approach envisaged by defining the notions of theology and moral theology / theological ethics and by proposing a reflection on the articulation between ethics, morals and practical wisdom. The second part deals with a historical journey (from Christian antiquity to the present) on the evolution of moral theology. The third part presents major criticism of christian ethics (K. Marx, S. Freud, F. Nietzsche). The fourth part deals with some great thems for a christian ethics (relationship to Scripture, natural law, conscience, catholic authority).
The method is primarily taught by the lectures with moment of discussion.

Oral examination ; the attendance to the lectures is obligatory.
