After a historical and conceptual introduction, the course presents the main areas of contemporary canon law: what are the issues at stake and the concrete practices, in general, based on the structure of the 1983 Code, and in particular on the notion of the fundamental rights of the faithful. The ecclesiological relevance of canon law is examined in order to grasp the scope of the debates relating to the "theology of canon law".

The Practice of Canon Law and the 1983 Code of Canon Law
Presentation of the codification process
Analysis of code structures Institution and fundamental rights
The major doctrinal issues
The major practical issues.
Temporal and personal scope natural law Self-definition and oecumenism
Conclusions: Theologies of Canon Law: Between Law, Pastoral Care and Theology Theological Uncertainties and Ecclesiological Conflicts.
At the end of the course, the student will have acquired the ability to research canonical literature and an adequate methodology.
Teaching methods
The teaching is based on a portfolio of readings.
Hybrid modalities for online teaching are possible.
The course is grouped on two Saturdays in February.
Evaluation methods
The evaluation of the course is done through a written synthesis of the course, based on a selection of readings. 20% of the points are attributed to the quality of the bibliography collected on the chosen theme.
The same modalities are applied for the September session.
