The prerequisite(s) for this Teaching Unit (Unité d’enseignement – UE) for the programmes/courses that offer this Teaching Unit are specified at the end of this sheet.
Content
The thesis support seminar takes place during the second four month period of the first year of the Master programme.
These sessions follow the objectives indicated above and of which the final objective is getting the student to define as precisely as possible both the subject and the methodology of his/her thesis (particularly the necessity to resort to one phase of the thesis).
The seminar is also a forum for exchange among students with respect to all recommendations relating to the future completion of their theses both regarding form and content.
The holder of the seminar may demonstrate to the students the contemporary difficulties encountered in the branch of criminology to which the thesis support seminar is linked in order to guide the students in researching the subject of their theses.

Teaching methods
The seminar includes group sessions. It may also include individual supervision.
Evaluation methods
Attendance at this seminar is required. In accordance with article 72 of the General Regulations for Studies and Examinations, the Professors may propose to the jury that a student who has at least two unjustified absences for the practical sessions, be refused registration for the January, June or September session.
At the end of the seminar, the student will draw up a dissertation project. This project includes a presentation of the research question, the problematic, a presentation of the methodology from which the student plans to work his/her subject (research field, type of data to be collected, method of analysis of these data, etc.) as well as a bibliography related to the project.
The teacher accompanies the student in the completion of the project and suggests ways to improve it.
Students are assessed on the basis of a personal written work (dissertation project of about ten pages to be written in French) to be submitted at the end of the term (100% of the final grade).
The use of AI in personal essays must be justified and mentioned, otherwise the assesment will be annulled for cheating.
