At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

The aim of this course is to introduce the students to the great thinkers and to the major topics of the history of philosophy, by means of specific philosophical issues.
 
Content
The first part of the course will be dedicated to Walter Benjamin's philosophy of history. The second half will consist of a close reading of Édouard Glissant's Introduction à une poétique du Divers
Teaching methods
This course is based on specific authors and text extracts. Sessions will alternate between lectures and text commentaries. Group presentations will also take place in the second half of the course.
Evaluation methods
A text commentary due in the middle of the term, and an essay due at the end of the term. Each assignment counts for 50% of the final grade. Specific instructions for these assignments will be given during the course and made available on Moodle.
Both parts must be submitted, and a minimum mark of 7/20 obtained in each. The course can only be passed if the overall mark for the two weighted parts is not a failing grade.

Course materials: texts, citation sheets, course outlines and bibliographies will be provided as the term progresses and will be available on Moodle.
