Content
The “travail de fin de premier cycle” (final paper), which must be written by every student enrolled in BA 3 Philosophy in order to complete the first cycle in philosophy, consists of an initial research paper in which the student demonstrates his or her ability to examine a philosophical problem and/or to open up fields of philosophical inquiry, including through interdisciplinary practices. This work is carried out under the supervision of a member of the philosophy group at Université Saint-Louis - Bruxelles who holds a doctorate (the “promoter”).
In this work, the student must demonstrate his or her ability to use secondary literature coherently and critically, to respect scientific criteria, to argue and to write clearly and correctly. The subject of the assignment may be thematic or historical, and must draw on authors and reference texts.
The student will determine the precise subject of his or her work with his or her promoter.
The work should be between 100,000 and 120,000 characters (including spaces) (i.e. between 40 and 45 pages in Times 12, line spacing 1.5).
Teaching methods
    1. Students must inform the Philosophy and Humanities faculty administration of the subject of their undergraduate thesis by November 15 at the latest. The form must be signed by the student, his or her promoter and the jury president (this form is available on request by e-mail from the faculty administration: phlb-slb@uclouvain.be). In agreement with the student's promoter, the student establishes the follow-up procedures for his or her end-of-cycle work.

    2. June session: students must submit their final paper electronically (phlb-slb@uclouvain.be) in PDF format to the Philosophy, Humanities and Social Sciences faculty administration, and to their promoter in the format requested, no later than the first day of the session.

   3. August-September session: students must submit their undergraduate work electronically (phlb-slb@uclouvain.be) in PDF format to the Philosophy, Humanities and Social Sciences faculty administration, as well as to their promoter, in the format requested, no later than the first day of the session. Please note that after July 1, the promoter will no longer be available to monitor this work. After this date, the student will have to finalize his or her work without the advice of his or her promoter.
Evaluation methods
- The undergraduate thesis is credited with 10 credits.
- Two marks out of 20 are included in the deliberation: the promoter's mark and the mark of a second reader.
- When justified by the subject of the work, the reader may be a person from outside Université Saint-Louis, a doctoral student or a post-doctoral student in philosophy.
The use of artificial intelligence in written work or oral presentations, if demonstrated, will be penalized by a 0 T, insofar as it contravenes scientific and academic integrity practices.
