Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

  • Describe Global economic history and major economic developments (industrialization, connectivity, inequality, divergence) in general terms;
  • Understand present economic realities, institutions, and challenges thanks to a long economic history perspective.
  • Apply a historical approach to economic and social problems.
 
Content
The core part of the course focuses on the post-industrial revolution period. But the course should also offer a wide historical perspective over the pre-industrial revolution period ( the exact sub-periods selection is flexible).

The course focuses on the different waves of globalization during past and contemporary periods and their impact on the transformation of human societies (wealth, institutions, …).

Face-to-face teaching ; critical reading of economic history articles.
