Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

On completing the two Modules of this Course Unit students should be able:
1. To use the linguistic (language) and cultural knowledge acquired in order to identify their informational and documentary needs;
2. To draw on the body of theory mastered during the course to update and widen their linguistic (i.e. language) skills and cultural expertise, in both language A and in the FLs studied;
3. To understand and reproduce in the target text the information in an authentic written source text;
4. To understand texts at the EFL level B.1.2 written in Turkish and in French, and translate them into French and into Turkish respectively.
5. At the end of the B2 Sight Translation course, students will demonstrate that they can :
- decode quickly the content of a text written in C and render it in French, with very brief preparation;
- detect the register of the text and transpose it as appropriately as possible into French.
 
Content
Analytical exercises focusing on the translation of brief texts or sentences of progressively increasing difficulty, with tutors comments.
Preparatory exercises for interpretation (sight translation)
Teaching methods
First term: 30 hours of written translation exercises.
Second term:
- 15 hours of sight translation exercises;
- 15 hours of written translation exercises.
Attendance is required.
Face-to-face, first and second semester.
Distance learning (partial or total) could be applied if the health situation requires it.
Evaluation methods
1st quad (module 1): written exam at the end of the module (30% of the final grade)
2d quadri (module 2) : (70% of the final mark)
Written translation: written examination at the end of the module which will count for 75% of the mark of the second quadrennium.
Sight translation: continuous assessment, provided that the student has taken 3 tests during this second term This assessment will represent 25% of the mark for the second term. (25%)

August/September session: only students who fail the entire MHTU1231 grade are required to retake the unsuccessful part(s).
- Written translation: written examination in August/September. Translation of a text into French
- Sight translation: students who have not passed will have to take an oral exam. This will be similar to the exercises done during the course.

Remote online exam if stricter social distancing measures are required due to Covid-19.
