Main themes
The course focuses on the concept of Modernity, from its definition in the 19th century to its development in the 20th. Its study is conducted through the debates, events, works, materials, personalities and crises that have animated it.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

1 The focus of this teaching unit  - understanding the link between writing and building ' involves a lengthy list of the mechanics of composition, from considered and speculative thinking procedures relevant to writing to the practical and architectural procedures relevant to building.
Specific learning outcomes:
By the end of this course, students are able to
  • find their way in an architectural field using a corpus formed of written and/or built knowledge
  • make use of this corpus to support a reasoned and critical approach in the architectural field
  • revert to the approach and the corpus formed in the architectural field.

  • build knowledge of architecture
  • Be familiar with and analyse the basic references
  • Be able to use given references which, by analogy, can lead to other interpretations of the context
