Main themes
The laboratory internship will allow the student to put his basic training into practice in a fundamental research project in a laboratory abroad.
They will not only discover how their training can be put into practice, but will also be confronted with the organization of a research team (teamwork, advantages and constraints).
This internship represents the first research experience for the students and also allows them to immerse themselves in a foreign culture, raising their awareness of internationalization.

Learning outcomes
At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |
1 | - To sensitize the student to research careers; - To develop the human qualities of integration, the spirit of initiative and the capacity of adaptation of the student to the professional environment (research laboratory); - To develop the student's motivation for research and to specify the choice of his/her orientation; - To carry out a first learning of the application of theoretical knowledge and techniques learned during the courses; - Acquire skills that are different from those acquired throughout the student's studies but directly related to them. |
Content
The internship in a research laboratory is a compulsory activity in the course of the Advanced Chemistry student.
It will be done in the framework of a research team in a Belgian or foreign university or research center.
The internship abroad can be realized in a European university (Erasmus framework) or in selected universities or research centers outside Europe.
It will have a duration equal to one quadrimester (fourteen weeks) full time and will take place in the second quadrimester of the first year of the Master. The internship will be supervised by a supervisor in the host research team (internship promoter) who will be responsible for establishing a research program and for supervising the intern.

Evaluation methods
The internship gives rise to a written report following an outline set by the academic internship manager.
The final evaluation will be based on this document, as well as on the evaluation of the internship by the local "internship supervisor" and on an oral defense (presentation and questions) by a jury made up of academic members of the UCL.

Other information
The choice of the host institution and the internship supervisor will be proposed by the student and must be approved by the university supervisor. The internship is subject to an agreement signed by all parties before the beginning of the internship.
The professor in charge of the internship helps the student find a host laboratory.
Information on mobility internships is available on the School of Chemistry website : ECOLE DE CHIMIE
