The course presents historical and conceptual elements of press photography and describes its development. It deals with current issues and challenges in news photography. It provides students with benchmarks (professional, technical and reflective) in the practice of news photography. It also involves students in a personal and original journalistic project involving the production of news photographs.
Teaching methods
- Presentations (remote or face-to-face)
- Personal reading, discovering the work of photographers
- Personal bibliographical research
- Monitoring (distance or face-to-face) of each student's work and production process by a teacher or assistant
- Individual and/or small group discussions (distance or face-to-face)
Evaluation methods
Assessment for the first session: continuous assessment based on 3 elements
- Final personal photographic production: 12 pts
- Final personal reflective text: 5 pts
- Involvement during the term (including intermediate work/productions): 3 pts
--> The timetable will be presented and available on Moodle on the date of the first course. The precise instructions will gradually be presented and made available on Moodle as the production work and reflective approach progress.
Assessment for the second session: 2 assignments
- Personal photographic production: 12 pts
- Final personal reflective text: 8 pts
--> Details and instructions for the two assignments will be posted on Moodle at the beginning of July. The assignments must be handed in by the beginning of the session.
Online resources
Information, references, links to interesting documents, instructions for the final production (and its various stages), the timetable, etc. will gradually be made available on Moodle.
