Monitoring Belgian social and political news (regional, national).
- Providing information on the various centres of power in the federal Belgium of 2023 (Consultative Committee, Interministerial Conference, restricted Council of Ministers, etc.), social consultation forums and other subjects of importance for understanding the Belgian decision-making landscape or other topical issues.
Teaching methods
  • Sessions to analyse and decipher socio-political news (distance learning or face-to-face)
  • Guest speakers (distance learning or face-to-face) will be invited to add to their knowledge of the issues analysed.
  • Questionnaires on current affairs monitoring
This course requires specific supervision by an assistant.
Evaluation methods
First session :
- Continuous assessment
- Questionnaires on news coverage and places of power: 10 pts
- In session
Jury (individual oral examination in French, by distance learning or face-to-face) based on political and social current affairs for the four-month period and the material covered in the course: 10 pts
--> Other elements may be taken into consideration and may lead to a modulation of the final mark (/20) ranging from -2 to +2. These elements are: the quality and relevance of the questions asked in class, the involvement and quality of participation in classes and discussions, the overall course of the four-month period, etc.
--> All information and instructions will be presented progressively and made available on Moodle as they become available.
Second session:
- In session: a jury (individual oral in French, by distance learning or face-to-face) on the political and social news since January 2023 and the material covered in the course: 20 pts

Keeping abreast of current events may require the ability to process sources in foreign languages (English, Dutch)
