The course provides tools to tackle contemporary ecological and climatic crises.
It aims to collectively and critically reflect on initiatives and decisions concerning the sustainability and / or resilience of human groups and ecosystems.
The course takes a critical look at the concept of the Anthropocene and its variants. It discusses the main characteristics of this period. It provides multidisciplinary analysis keys to understanding crises and their interrelationships with social and political issues.
The course considers a series of critical views on these crises, including decolonial and multi-specific perspectives. It analyzes transition and / or resilience initiatives in the North and South.

Learning outcomes
At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to : | |
1. | Characterize the anthropocene and analyze the concept and its variants ; |
2. | Understand the main contemporary climatic and ecological issues and their main social and political impacts; |
3. | Develop critical reflections on different dimensions of the Anthropocene, from the perspectives presented in the course; |
4. | Take a critical and prospective look at transition and / or resilience initiatives in the North and South |
5. | Debate scientific and critical texts related to ecological and climatic crises and transitions. |
Content
The course contrains four parts: (1) Characterization of the Anthropocene and critique of the concept (2) Presentation of climatic and ecological crises, and their interrelationships with social and political issues (3) Presentations of critical perspectives on ecological crises (including decolonial and multispecific perspectives) (4) Study of transition and / or resilience initiatives: diversity of processes, points of view of the South, etc.
Teaching methods
The course will contain lectures, guest lectures from various disciplines, participatory workshops and case studies. It will be supplemented by texts.
Evaluation methods
The evaluation in first session will be divided between:
- weekly participation in activities, especially online
- a final individual oral exam (covering the issues of the course), with possibly a complementary assessment
In the event of a second session, the teacher will decide on an appropriate examination procedure.

The course LSPED1212 is considered a prerequisite for this course. For students from masters other than SPED/DV, it is expected that they cover the material of this course before starting LDVLP2315.
