Main themes
Extension of, and additional cumulative experience in, developing a design approach. The design question is not given. A theme is proposed, and students must develop a position. According to the proposed theme, students work in groups on a preparatory analysis: definition of a site, a programme, and identification of the theoretical questions raised by the theme. Design work thereafter is individual. The way in which the theme is posed should guarantee a plurality of approaches and the potential for an architectural realisation at appropriate scales: site plan, overall plan at 1/2000, 1/1000, 1/500; plans, sections, elevations at 1/200, 1/100, 1/50; details and profiles at 1/20, 1/10, 1/5, 1/2; models and perspectives. This work will emphasize manual and computer-aided drawing skills developed thus far in the study programme.

By the end of the course, students will be able to: Define the questions that come before the programming stage. Identify the references and disciplinary resources necessary for the project. Develop and formulate a specific programme, appropriate to the context. Bring a programme and a site into mutual coherence through design work. Produce a synthetic view of landscape, historical, institutional, urban and technical dimensions via the project. Prepare a full project presentation. |
