Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

- Demonstrate an understanding of a body of knowledge on the issues of sustainable development and transition. (6.4, 11.1)
- Explain how taking into consideration the issues of sustainable development and environmental impact influence the choices to be made in the care of a person, with a view to the potential impact on the community. (6.4, 10.2,11.1)
- Identify in a critical approach the issues of sustainable development and transition as well as the tensions linked to different reading angles.
- Describe the positive and negative links between environment, health and behavior (6.4, 10.3)
 
Content
The content of the course will focus on the issues and the many interactions between health, healthcare and the environment, as well as the impact that current and future carers can have.

After an overview of the various issues, the following topics will be covered:

- The fundamental concepts of sustainable development, which are essential to an understanding of the issues (e.g. planetary limits, climate change, sustainable development goals, the Donut Theory, the One Health approach)
- The impact of climate change on health
- The impact of our healthcare systems on climate change
- Sustainability strategies to adopt as a carer or future carer:
    Systems approach and vision
    Associated co-benefits
- Transition dynamics (e.g. eco-anxiety, civic engagement, importance of individual vs. political action, tipping points)
- The philosophical and ethical perspective of these issues
- Discourses of climate inaction and their deconstruction

Particular attention will be paid throughout the course to the integration and identification of fundamental concepts.
Teaching methods
Lectures in auditoriums and participation in an extra teaching activity.
Evaluation methods
Le cours est évalué à l'aide de deux parties : un examen théorique et la participation à une activité pédagogique. La partie théorique se compose d'un examen écrit en session comprenant des questions à choix multiples (QCM) ainsi que des questions ouvertes. Les questions portent tant sur la matière vue au cours que sur l’activité pédagogique réalisée.
La participation aux deux parties constituant un dispositif intègre, il est obligatoire d’avoir participé aux deux parties afin d’obtenir une note. En l’absence de la participation à l’une ou l’autre de ces deux parties, l’étudiant sera considéré comme absent.
La note finale est la moyenne pondérée de l’examen théorique et de l’activité pédagogique.
