For most people, projects are as much a part of their professional and business lives as they are of their personal lives. So it's not surprising that project management is an important part of the management profession.
This course covers a number of topics:
  •     The importance of project management.
  •     Defining a project and assessing its duration and cost.
  •     Project planning methodologies.
  •     Resource scheduling.
  •     Project risk management.
  •     Reducing project duration and project control.
Learning outcomes

At the end of this learning unit, the student is able to :

Learning outcomes at the end of the teaching unit
At the end of this teaching unit, students will be able to:
  •     Initiate a project and define a project plan.
  •     Manage resources and use them to minimize project duration and cost.
  •     Check that a project is carried out within budget and on time.
  •     Take into account uncertainties and risks that may arise during project execution.
In this course, students also learn to work with :
  •     Microsoft Project (application for project planning and management).
  •     Trello (application for AGILE project management).
  • Python (application for assessing the impact of uncertainty and risk).
Project time reduction and project control.
 
Content
This course covers the following topics:
  •    The basics of project management.
  •     Resource management to minimize costs and project duration.
  •     The impact of uncertainty and risk on project objectives.
  •     AGILE project management.
  •     Earned Value Management (EVM).

Teaching methods
This course uses a mix of:
  •    Lectures.
  •     Competitive business games.
  •     Group and individual assignments.
  •     Case studies.
  •     Software learning.
  •     Guest lectures.
A hands-on, fun approach is adopted to maximize student involvement. Consequently, it is important that students attend face-to-face classes. For some sessions, students are required to bring their own laptops.
Evaluation methods
In-session written exam and continuous assessment in the form of individual work, performances in business games, and group work. The in-session written exam counts for 70% of the final grade, and the continuous assessment for 30% of the final grade. With regard to continuous assessment, it is not possible to hand in work after the due date. The grade distribution for continuous assessment is provided at the beginning of the course.
