Students will have been introduced to the characteristics of medieval French.
Main themes
The course includes both linguistic training - following on from the History of the French Language course - and training in literary analysis.
The course will focus on the following themes:

- The emergence and development of French-language literature
- The most representative literary genres of medieval French literature (12th to 15th centuries)
- The main features of medieval French: morphology, syntax, phonetics and vocabulary.
- The main phenomena in the evolution from Bas-Latin to Old French
- Literary and stylistic analysis of medieval texts, with particular attention to the literary techniques specific to each of the genres.
