The course consists of two major modules.
1) The basic principles of digital information representation (encoding types, existing formats, structured data, etc.)
2) The general functioning of relational databases (SQL language, database management systems, database programming, etc.) 
Teaching methods
The course combines lectures, supervised exercise sessions, group work and individual work. 
Evaluation methods
The assessment consists of three parts:
  •  Individual final exam (60%)
  • Assignment 1 (10%): Exercises related to numerical representation
  • Assignment 2 (15%): Exercises related to SQL language
  • Assignment 3 (15%): Programming exercises with databases.
